New Hydrogen Bus Fueling Station At Orlando Florida Airport
by John Laumer, Philadelphia on 05.26.07

The Orlando Florida, USA airport has a new hydrogen fueling station, installed to provision a new generation of clean shuttle buses. "Air Products' (NYSE:APD) hydrogen technology was officially put into operation this week in Orlando, Florida. Designed and constructed by Chevron Hydrogen Company, a division of Chevron U.S.A. Inc., the hydrogen fueling station is located near the Orlando Airport and will fuel a fleet of shuttle buses powered by modified internal combustion engines." The thought of waiting for a shuttle at baggage claim - and not having to breath diesel fumes - is certainly attractive. We don't have to wait for fuel cell technology to become more cost effective to benefit from better air quality. Knowing that the hydrogen reformation equipment can be more conveniently equipped to control pollutants than can a bus, we expect to see more of this in the future.

Hydrogen is the fuel for people who can freely spend other people's money, or who have more money than sense.
Those of us who have to spend our own money (and don't have enough of it to just toss away) tend to opt for alternatives that are substantially more economical. And almost anything else is GREENER.
Even if hydrogen was FREE (fortunately, it's very expensive), it would still be a major pollutant -- it's the most potent ozone-depletion agent ever produced by man. And it is notoriously difficult to contain, so widespread use of hydrogen for fuel would cause enough leakage to completely destroy the ozone layer.
Using hydrogen to power automobiles is insanely stupid on many different levels. It is long past time to abandon this idiocy. There are already at least 3 alternatives that are more efficient, safer, more economical, and 'greener'.
Why didn't they just give us an E85 station or Biodiesel, something we the taxpayers could use.
It's not that difficult to solve the fuel problems it is just anti big business and government.
A hydrogen station is way over the top, how about the basics first, we can use alternate fuels readily available to other Americans in standard vehicles, just not here in Florida.
These fuels are advertised and available in Colorado and Arizona now. Whats it going to take for Florida to wake up.
