MTV Seeks Eco-Activists for TRUE LIFE Series
by Olivia Zaleski, New York City, USA on 05. 9.07
Believe it or not, MTV is seeking eco-activists for its award winning documentary series TRUE LIFE. The series is looking to cast young environmentalists taking on the issue of global climate change in their schools, towns, and greater communities.
If you "appear" to be between the ages of 17 and 28, and are a passionately fighting for an environmental cause, email them at: ecoactivist@mtvstaff.com with all the details of your story, your name, location, phone number and a photo. To learn more about this and other MTV casting calls visit their casting website.
Thanks for the tip, Remy C.

"Appear" to be? That sounds kinda strange. Anyway, this should be an interesting show.
Yes, I found it strange myself, but that's quoted from their casting call website. I wonder what it means to "appear" to be between the ages of 17 and 28. What if you are between the ages of 17 and 28, but don't appear so? Hmmm, MTV can you get back to us on this?
I was in touch with the casting person and she said they are looking for students who will hang a banner on a smokestack or protest with signs etc etc. Very in-your-face angry-protester stereotype of environmentalists...sad. I guess they think that's all that can make good tv. Personally, I'd love to see someone who invigorates citizens to take action locally or nationally, lobbies at the state capital for legal change, and speaks to diverse audience. That would be just as exciting to me.
GreenGirl will you email me at Olivia@treehugger.com. I want to ask you more about this.
Greetings,
This is very interesting, especially as it relates to the "Whaling issue" in a Caribbean centric manner, heres why !
When nuclear waste was being shipped through the Caribbean Greenpeace stood up for the region. How times have changed, while indeed the act was illegal, but last year at the IWC 58 meeting in St.Kitts last year GP were turfed out on their ear by not only St.Kitts, but by the other Caribbean members of the IWC, by association.
Fast forward to caribbeanwhalefriends.org. The ad you see there was to placed on TV as a paid advertisement in the related islands, well Antigua for one boycotted the ad, along with CNN and MTV. Apparently it was not in line with government policy and a similar sentiment came from MTV.
So while the environmental movement evolves from the direct action stratergy to one that is "mature" that engages all parties in a less confrontational manner and one that is more encouraging and inclusive. All of which is bit mundane for the "Drama" that MTV thrives on, gosh normal folks going to meetings and using sound advocacy in bringing about the desired changes.
Oh well, the furthering of the "dirty whine" to all adolescent teenagers can only be a positive thing if you want consumers!
The manner with which Japan and it's allies pursue this goal of commercial whaling is incredible, I am sure Pres Bush took some lessons from this example of collusion and selling a big lie, based on spun facts and deep seated nationalism and global access to all the marine resources available.
It is so sad to this energy being spent in a manner that is not in the interests of these nations.
