The child of the Industrial Woodworking Corporation (who make some excellent sustainable office, home office & health care-environment furniture of their own), Knú is a soon-to-be-launched online-only company committed to creating sustainable, modern, contemporary home and office furniture for retail sale. While the official launch isn't until September 2007, you can still check out their website to see what they've got up their sleeves; if you like what you see (and we do), you can preorder whatever catches your eye with a 10% discount on the sale price and 50% discount on shipping. "Knú Desk #4" (pictured above) might be our favorite; not only is it made with FSC-certified wood veneers, zero-VOC water-borne PVA adhesives and 40% recycled/100% recyclable steel (as are all of their pieces), it might be the first desk we've ever seen that looks like it might take flight if you don't hold it down. Hit the jump for more pics of their work, including a dining set, bookcase and more desks, and check out their website for more on their environmental commitment (they're also a 100% carbon-neutral company) and read their blog for more on their company and products. ::Knú and ::Industrial Woodworking Corporation via ::2modern Design Talk

Those are some really cool designs. My favorite - Knú Desk #3

I like the designs a lot. But this kind of pricing just proves a little more that it can be hard for the poor to be environmental.

Their designs are incredibly unique, very original. I disagree with the above comment. The pricing is competitive, most furniture companies charge quite a bit more for furniture that isn't green. Get knu! I want desk#3!

Um, did the above commentor actually look at the prices. (I think they must work for Knu') Almost $2000 for an uncomfortable looking chair (very stylish though)? I want to know who they are competing with, or who is willing to spend that much on a chair because I need to get into that business and find that cusomer. So the total cost of that table and 4 chair set would be $12,800? OMG, I would love to but...

It is expensive, but I think one of the most important parts of being sustainable is the lifespan of an item. This furniture looks like it is built to last a long time. Why buy something cheap from a big store chain when you can buy something that is going to last a long time from a small green company?

    jump to top RebeccaDeMornay says:

THE POOR CAN BE ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY BY USING USED FURNITURE! (OR MAKING THEIR OWN OUT OF FALLEN WOOD/alreadyDeadTreeBits).
All should try to compensate for money with creativity.

    green poor for the environmental?

it's called survival of the fittest. green likes green money and lot's of it.

green doesn't want to say that it's for the Better Off. I'm so glad I'm part of the better off, but not delusional and buying into it's unsubsidized marketing
