Kids Day America

This Saturday expect that towns in your area will be taking part in Kids Day America. It's a day of fun and education for kids across America that was started over 13 years ago by two chiropractors, and emphasizes things like child safety, wellness, reducing the amount of drugs kids take, pollution control, recycling, and energy conservation. What exactly goes on at your typical Kids Day? Well, how about we take Newtown, Connecticut for an example. Kids there will be able to get their faces painted, meet Little Critters book series author and illustrator Mercer Mayer, get free balloons, watch a puppeteer, and do a make-and-take craft. The local police department will have free fingerprinting for children and Amber Alert IDs, their fire department will have a fire truck on hand with firefighters to give fire safety tips, and the Ecology Club of Newtown High School will provide environmental awareness activities along with books focusing on health, safety and the environment from their local library. Now I have no idea what's planned in your neighborhood, but it seems to me this could be a great way to entertain the kids this saturday, and possibly learn something about protecting their health and the planet at the same time.
