Hey...Look What I Found!

Foreign Policy online has a photo-essay called "Inside the Digital Dump" by Natalie Behring (sample shown here). The intro:- "Technology drives the forces of globalization. But when we replace our computers and flat-screens with the newest in high-tech cool, what happens to the hardware we throw away? Welcome to the digital dumping ground, where the poor make a living off other people’s spare parts." Taken together, the twelve photos supplant thousands of words; and leave plenty of room for creative captioning. Besides our post title, these came to mind: Whomever designed this wasn't thinking about recycling. ... Department of Homeland Security probably wishes I hadn't found this. ... I didn't realize a corporation could have a foreign policy.

The picture with the toddler playing with the wires......not sure what to say about that.

The chance for strangulation and cuts being high in that situation, it seems inconceivable that a parent would leave him crawling about the trash pile. And we are left to wonder how common or how exceptional this photo really is. Then again, each summer children in developed nations die tragically while left in parked cars in the hot sun. Same wonderment.
