Why Your Grandma Gets Better Gas Mileage Than You

Huggs to Hugger hawker400 for this gem. My grandma lost her licence for wrapping her plymouth round a lampost and my mother is unsafe at any speed, but I suppose some drive like this and save a lot of money. Here are the top five reasons why your grandma gets better gas mileage than you:

She goes from 0 to 60 in 12 seconds.
She obeys the speed limit.
She never leaves the right hand lane.
She keeps the inside of her car immaculately clean.
She doesn’t drive a truck or an SUV.

Except my grandma drives a huge V-8 Lincoln, where as I drive an '89 diesel Jetta.

I've followed suggestions 1-5 for a few years now, and I get great mileage. There's one problem:

It's actually not so safe to drive in the right hand lane because of the people entering or exiting the highways.

Here in new england, there's sort of a driving norm that the left hand land is for passing, and the 1 or 2 middle lanes are for 'travel'. The right hand land is getting on and off the highway. Most people avoid the right hand lane because it means they have to slow down and speed up in advance of getting on or off the highway (and other drivers getting on and off).

I still stay in the right lane driving 55-60, because in general you're a nuisance to other drivers if you're not going 65-70, and my point is not to be a public safety hazard for the sake of my gas mileage. But still, it scares the **** out of my wife. :/

Having lived in Arizona for 12 years and Florida for 1.5 years (both retirement havens). Let me display my corrections to the above list:

She goes from 0 to 60 in 12 seconds minuets.
She obeys the speed limit does 10 to 20 under the speed limit in the wrong lane with her blinker on.
She never leaves the right hand lane with out turning on her left blinker.
She keeps the inside of her car immaculately clean which affects mileage how?.
She doesn’t drive a truck or an SUV instead she drives a 1972 Detroit boat that gets half it's gas mileage.

Granny is not a roll model for any driving paradigm.

Note: The S HTML tag does not work to strikeout words so i used bold instead.

Driving slowly and erratically causes road rage in other drivers (causing aggressive acceleration), accidents, and traffic jams, all of which negate grandma's minimal savings of gas.

And yes, the slowest worst oldest drivers are driving Cadillacs or Lincolns. Overall the worst drivers drive Corollas.

Yazheirx, from the original source:

She keeps the inside of her car immaculately clean.

She doesn’t carry around golf clubs in the trunk of her car, there aren’t three or four CD books lying around, any of that extra stuff that needlessly adds weight to her car.

I seriously doubt my grandmother gets better mileage than me. I just filled up my scooter and I got 74.10 miles per gallon.

on the flip side she drives a crown vic that gets 16 mpg and I drive a taurus that gets 22, her insurance is double mine, I haven't had a accident in 15 years she has one every 6 months.
