Return of the Solar Powered Bikini

solarswimsuit.jpg Treehuggers love solar powered bikinis (or do they love the pin-ups of the girls?), so here is another one. The one-piecer has solar panels on the front, artfully placed around Spanish swimming champ Gemma Mengual's cleavage. They will harness enough energy to charge up your iPod or mobile, whilst parading along the beach. This bathing suit is going to be made commercially and available in the shops soon. It was shown as part of the fun at an underwear fashion show in Valencia, held for the World Cup Sailing. The manufacturer, Triumph, has also made a nautically-themed bikini with a silver anchor in an indescribable place, in homage to the sailing competition. :: gizmodo

An electric swimsuit would be a good candidate for a Darwin Award... Electricity and water mixed together do indeed make for a positively shocking combo!

With all the people looking, the light from the sun will reflect off the white part of the eye towards the area being covered by solar panels.(Cleavage) :P

I agree, Turil -- what's the point of a swimsuit that makes it impossible to swim? (Except for allowing others a bit of visual appreciation, I guess.)

Nautilly themed?

I doubt that the salt water will be able to short an under-water generated current flow, sufficient to creat a hazard.

jump to top JL says:

Yeah, but salt, sand, and/or chlorine can't be good for exposed jacks and /or wires, even if the thing does have a way to turn off the power generation when nothing is plugged in.

Maybe the suit really is well designed, and somehow overcomes the problems associated with water and the various caustic chemicals in pools and oceans, but I have a hard time believing that they put that much thought into a sexy fashion item... :-)
