Toyota's Hybrid X Could Be The New Prius

Today, at the Geneva Motor Show, Toyota unveiled the Hybrid-X concept, which is supposed to give the world a hint at the new design language for future Toyota hybrid vehicles. The concept car has 20-inch alloy wheels, features LED headlights and taillights, LED interior lighting and independent rear seats which can swivel inwards 12 degrees to “allow passengers to enjoy the scenery or a more intimate 'tête-à-tête'.” Toyota did not reveal any mileage numbers for the Hybrid X, but one can expect a new level of efficiency from the car. I love green, but that blue is really nice. It looks so lovely. I know walk, ride, run, bus, before we drive but. but. Okay your right.

But I still think it looks lovely.

If a VW bug and a prius had an affair and a kid, it might look like this.

Or maybe if someone put an SUV into a compactor it would look like this.

I would think that "a new level of efficiency" could come without a new level of ugly.

And whats with efficient hybrids needing to have tiny windows and windscreens. First the volt, now this.

I drive the Prius currently. My only complaints would be that it isn't the cutest car ever as it is, but I'm ok with that. What I am not so ok with, but have gotten used to is that it has a seriously poor visual field for backing up (not too well compensated for with the camera), but not just that - it is hard to pull out into traffic as well, because I have to lean back and forth to look around the frame so that I can see the crossroad well enough. I would have really hoped that they would have improved upon this, but this model is clearly going to be even worse! What's up with the engineers?!

I seriously like this one. Toyota's done a number on style and combined it with functionality. The fact that it's a hybrid is most important, but to have everything else as well is icing on the cake.

Interesting. It'll be nice to have even more efficient cars out there on the road (even though I hope to not have to drive one). Personally, I think the smoothed out, futuristic look is many, many times better than the boxy Element. Also, it probably more aerodynamic as well.

Is it electric?
Is the powertrain at least equivalent
to fully electric vehicles of 10 years ago?

If not, why?

jump to top Tom says:

Most americans are not ready for fully electirc cars because they can't take them on a road trip. Plug in hybrids are the best we're going to do for a while. So, is it plug-in?

And hopefully the swiveling rear seats won't make it to production. I hate it when new gimicks are introduced on models which are intriguing enough without them. Then, if the car doesn't sell well no one knows if it was a bad car or a good car with a stupid gimick.

Interesting ! I hope it mite b a plug-in ?Toyota would get way ahead of everybody if they do make this a plug in -hybrid and if they build it!

jump to top Bruce says:

The old Prius we have with its current bad blind spot problem seems to be better than the one in this picture. If we are going to drive small vehicles ( and I prefer to) we should be able to see more, not less of whatever traffic is around us.

I've been interested in hybrids and enjoyed your article. Definitely I've changed my interest towards hybrids and probably the Prius. I read an interesting article that helped me refocus my opinion on the priorities of doing what we all can to help our planet.

Not sure what people really want when it comes to there vehicles, I know Americans are more concerned about there looks, and what it does from zero to sixty, Rather than what it wont do to the environment; Its a shame, they never learn, that the thinking that got the big three in the position they are into these days, and more of this thinking and mind set, will eventually bring the US down from its mighty nation status, in my lifetime.............
