Stars and Stinkers Game

So do you know where the celebrities rate on being green? DeSmogBlog thinks they do and have created a little game. You match the picture of your favourite celeb to where you think they should be on the scale from black hat to white hat- your value judgement against theirs and EcoRazzi, where they did their research. Silly but a moment's diversion. Too wide for us to embed so link to ::DeSmogBlog

So Bush is the worst, and Gore is the best? Obviously this rating was based on politics and not personal lifestyle, at least for these two. Very disappointing, for an otherwise clever game.

I hope you guys are not for real. How can you guys worship Al Gore? He flys around in a private jet that can burn more fuel in one trip than a Hummer in 10 years. Do you not recall the 2006 huricane forecast? What a calm huricane season we had. Are you old enough to recall the "ice age" scare in the 1970s? Our atmosphere is just too dynamic to model and predict long term. Not that nukes are anything for the human race to be proud of, but they are out there. Without a strong and quite frankly nasty CIA, someday, somehow, NY or LA will be hit. Ask yourself what kind of environmental disaster that would be. Bush is not that the bad guy, and Al is not the hero. Nancy P. wants her own 757 to jet around in! Open your eyes and really study the world around you. In your hurry to bash Bush and anyone else you do not agree with, you have just lost focus. The political leaders you obviously support want you to live as they say, not as they do. Because I do not support Al and global warming does not mean I want dirty air and poluted water. Just put down your passon, and open up your brain.

LA: please note that the copy says clearly "your value judgement against theirs"- as much as some of us would like to we are trying not to take obvious political positions. We just thought it was a cute diversion.

This game is clearly biased and based on subjective opinion rather than having any fact or objectivity at all, Al Gore is using more energy in one of his *mansions* than 15 typical American families use, and he flies around in private jets every bit as much as the next celebrity on the list, how is it that he ranks #1 ?

President Bush's Administration is doing far more than any other Administration has done in the past to cut energy consumption, more than Al Gore has ever done or is even capable of doing as a simple civilian with a $30,000/year electricity bill. Why don't you people open your eyes ?

If you really did care about the environment, you'd be looking at FACTS and not humping Al Gore because he's a Democrat.

The smear campaign against gore based on his electricity bill is pretty funny. Typical swiftboating; if you can't attack the message, attack the messenger.

Gore gets his electricity from renewable sources, so if he uses more, he's basically just giving more money to a wind farm or whatever. Not all electricity is the same.

As for Bush being such a green president, whatever. Denying global warming until the last minute, gutting the EPA and silencing scientists, putting oil lobbyists in charge, etc.. Not very green.

Since a huge amount of fuel is used on takeoff, is the speaker's plane that much less efficient, since it is nonstop.

I wish people would stop ribbing people in the media (like gore) about being hypocrites. Of course they're hypocrites, but modern society dictates that those who have money much waste it. At least they are doing good from it.

I also with people wouldn't use # of vehicles as a gauge for eco-friendliness. So travolta has 2 (read it TWO, not a fleet) planes. You think he flys them both at the same time? Of course not. He might loan or rent them someone to fly them for him, but odds are they would have found another plane. Same about people with 14 cars, how the hell do you expect them to drive all of them at the same time? Sure its a waste of resources to manufacture all them, but if I bought 1/3 of everything shown on this site, id have way too much useless junk.

There's no smear. It is a factual statement that Gore uses ludicrous amounts of electricity and lives a wasteful life in multiple mansions. We would never allow Exxon Mobil to dump CFCs in a river if they claimed they were going to clean-up another polluted river in the future. Why should we allow Gore to do so with his electricity?

Also, putting aside electricity usage, can you imagine the greenhouse gases generated to heat his 16,000+ sqft of mansions, let alone from his private jet flights and limousines.

Al Gore is an environmental faith healer.

If environmentalism wishes to enter the mainstream political debate, it must become a big-tent movement concerned only with achieving results, not blind partisanship. This game is based on the perceptions of the author, and does more to reduce membership than gain.
