You don't have to thrash about the wilds of Google for your eco-conscious queries, true believers. GreenMaven's niche-based search engine pulls results from thousands of environment-positive Web sites and news stories to help you narrow it down, whether you're looking for vegetable-tanned leather pumps or a green moving company.

"People want to go green, but they often don't know where to start or even what questions to ask," says Joey Shepp, founder of Green Maven. "Green Maven makes searching for all things green as easy as using Google. If you search for socks, you get organic socks. If you search for cars, you get hybrid cars. Our mission is to make it easy for mainstream to go green."

You can also browse the sites by category or add your own earth-friendly site to the mix. Plus, a handy browser-based plugin lets you add GreenMaven to your Google homepage. :: GreenMaven

Greenona.com is another green search engine. It presents results in a clustered format and shows what others are searching for.

Greenle (http://greenle.info) is a good complement to Green Maven.

I use it to google, so I remind the environment every time I do a web search.

A more complete, and environmentally rounded, green search engine is searchgreener.com - everyday googling made better AND carbon neutral

I use http://www.keepglobe.com which is similar to greenle but it saves more energy. It is hosted on a server that is powered by wind and sun energy. Black search engines do not save energy as they claim and also my eyes twitch after seeing that black background.

Another human-edited, high quality green search engine is www.greenlinkcentral.com. This site provides Webthumbs to help you remember your favorite sites, as well as an emerging green Website review blog to help you quickly and easily decide if the sites meet their interests. Green site owners can request a review of their site.

Green search engines are an excellent way to filter out unrelated content to make your searches quick and easy.

I actually found Green Maven to come up with some interesting stuff (though a fair bit from right back here).

And if we're going to talk about general search engines, www.seareen.com is the best one I've found. It does the standard offset like the rest and runs on renewable energy, but beyond this, all revenue goes back into funding renewable energy twice over.
