Let there be a Solar Powered Audio Bible
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 03.10.07

For all you sun worshippers, we offer the solar powered talking bible, which " speaks all books of the Bible, Old and New Testaments, in a real human voice. You can move from book to book and chapter to chapter with the press of a button....perfect for anyone on-the-go who wants to hear the word of God." Only a hundred bucks here. To be fair and balanced, we note that you can put Richard Dawkins into your MP3 Player from Audible here, but he isn't solar powered. Thank you, ::Sietch Blog

Yes, but which version of the Bible? NIV, NRSV, KJV, NLTV, MOUSE? (just seeing if you're paying attention with the last one.)
How big is an entire audio Bible? Wouldn't it be greener to have it on your iPod or whatever (charged by building-wide solar) that you can use for music, too, instead of having a single-purpose device?
A solar powered Bible ... well, actually there are millions of solar powered books, and they've been around for centuries. Sure, they don't talk, but still ...

As much as I'd like to say the greenest way to go about this is to just face reality and discard the entire concept of a portable bible all together, afterall do we really need more ways to poison the minds of our youths...would it not make more sense in a green way to either delve your mind into an old school, already existing bible in hard copy form or as the first poster said, just simply play it as par mp3 on your also already in existance mp3 player instead of creating a whole new plastic product just to listen to a book on tape?
I think you're missing the point of this product. Like most portable solar products, this isn't targeted at you or me, who have access to mp3 players and the internet and can read etc. This is likely targeted at educating (or mis-educating) poor third-world peoples. Traditional books require the ability to read.
In that case, maybe there should be a solar powered Dawkins audio book. Where can i donate?
Disclaimer: I realize that third-world peoples can not afford a $100 product, but I'd bet the $100 price tag for "westerners" is used to subsidise a free/low-cost distribution campaign. Judging by the design and technical requirements, I'd say it should really only be @$25-$30.
note2: I've found this for half the price and there are versions in Spanish (new testament, colour choices...oooh) and I've found couple KJV's

Notice that the languages available(with the exception of English) happen to co-incide with the languages of the greates numbers of third-world people. IE: there is no German, French, Japanese, or Korean versions.
