In August 2006, during the 7th Brazilian Conference on Design Research & Development organized in Curitiba by the Parana Federal University (UFPR), “sustainable design” was one of the three most popular topics among all 650 papers published on the proceedings. Because of that, one of the conclusions of the conference was the clear need of dedicating more efforts to develop strategies that actually promote changes in lifestyles. Simultaneously, in Europe, researchers and practitioners had already realized the importance of this issue and, with the support of UNEP/CSCP, had implemented the SCORE Network, which discusses key questions on Sustainable Consumption and Production. Now these two organizations have coordinated efforts to put together the 1st Brazilian Symposium on Sustainable Design, whose purpose is to bring together researches and practitioners in order to discuss strategies to promote sustainable lifestyles through design, both on emerging and developing economies. The event will take place on September 4th, 5th and 6th, 2007 in Curitiba, Brazil. Confirmed speakers include Ezio Manzini, Carlo Vezzoli, Jenz Großhans, Christian Ullman, Eugênio Andrés Diaz Merino, Martin Charter and Arnold Tukker (read extended for bios).

Ezio Manzini is the coordinator of the Research Design and Innovation for Sustainability unit at the Doctorate in Industrial Design and Multimedia Communication in the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. His main interest is strategic design and design for sustainability with a focus on the scenario building and solution development. In his presentation, he will reffer to “Consumers, Behaviors and Lifestyle”.
Carlo Vezzoli is professor of Environmental Requirements of the Industrial Product (Life Cycle Design) at the Faculty of Design of the Politecnico di Milano and a member of the faculty of the Master in Strategic Design. His conference will center in “Products, services and product-services-systems”.
Jenz Großhans will represent the Köln International School of Design (Cologne, Germany). He runs a design office whose main focus is communication and 3D-areas and long term concept consulting.
Christian Ullmann (featured in TreeHugger) is founder of Oficina Nomade an active environment and socially conscious design studio based in Brazil that works with communities and different groups. At the Symposium he will speak about “Developing country perspectives on Sustainable Design”.
Eugênio Andrés Diaz Merino is a professor at the Federal Santa Catarina University in Florianópolis, Brazil, in the pos-graduation program at Production Engineering. He also coordinates the Design Management Center at the same university, where he acts on Research Development in the design area. He will talk about “Sustainable Design for Agro-food”.
Martin Charter is the director of the Centre for Sustainable Design at the University College for the Creative Arts (UCCA), in the UK. Since 1988, he has worked as a consultant in 'business and environment' issues in leisure, publishing, training, events and research. His conference will be “Sustainable Design for Housing”.
Arnold Tukker, a graduate in analytical chemistry, economics and didactics at the Utrecht University (The Netherlands), and former employee in the Ministry of Housing, Physical Planning and Environment, Inspectorate for the Environment, and current manager of the Research Program on Transitions and Systems innovation within TNO (a consultancy about scientific knowledge applied to “strengthening the innovative power of industry and government”). His presentation will be “Sustainable Design for Tourism” and travel.
Another speaker to be confirmed is Helen Lewis, who would reffer to Sustainable Design for Mobility. More at their website. Other events in Latin America include the 1st Sustainable Design National Colloquy in Mexico. ::Curitiba International Symposium on Sustainable Design

That's because the image used here is wrong. If you go to the website (from which much of this seems to be cut-and-paste) and check the program and schedule, you'll find that the event is in Sept.
Regards,
Keith

There has to be something wrong with the organizers, because I received the information with the September date and then on the website it said something else (I obviously didn't take the time to make up that image). I know I should have checked first, but I guess that's what happens when I work late.
I have already asked the organizers and will correct this as soon as I get the answer. Sorry everybody.
