TreeHugger Picks: Going Green on Tour
by Collin Dunn, Corvallis, OR, USA on 02. 5.07

The past week or so, we've been working on finding some of our favorite green music for an upcoming party to celebrate the launch of Domino magazine's green issue (and it's not to late to go cast your vote in the survey), and we got to wondering: who are some bands who are taking their eco-credo on the road with them? Here are some picks for musicians who are going green on tour.
1) Barenaked Ladies will be using biodiesel, buying carbon offsets, recycling all the way and ditching disposable plates in favor of the real deal.
2) Before Pearl Jam announced their Carbon Portfolio Strategy and switched to biodiesel on tour, they were offsetting tour-related emissions and working on the "Vote for Change Renewable Energy Project."
3) Gomez partnered up with Clif Bar's GreenNotes program to fuel their tour with biodiesel, offset the tour’s CO2 emissions, use recycled paper and soy based inks for printed materials and provide organic cotton merchandise options for its fans.
4) Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young racked up 220,000 miles last year on tour; powering them all with biodiesel made them 78% cleaner than before, and they ponied up to be carbon neutral in 2006.
5) MTV2's $2 Bill Tour wasn't left out of the biofuel fun: the 27-city tour featuring 30 Seconds to Mars was fueled by biodiesel as well.

The Ditty Bops rode their bikes across the country to all of their gigs this past summer. Their gear was still moved by petro power, but the girls did it all on food calories.
Tomrrow the CANADIAN FEMALE TRIO SHAYE will release their new album "LAKE OF FIRE" ON FEBRUARY 6.
"On the new CD, Kim, Damhnait and Tara even tackle topics such as the environment, in the song "This is the Moment," a cause that they fully united on even with their different politics and cause affiliations. Further demonstrating their concern for the future of the world we all live in, the girls and EMI Music Canada worked with the organization Zerofootprint (www.zerofootprint.net) to create packaging for Lake of Fire made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper and to ’zerofootprint’ the CD - paying to replace the resources used in production (energy, paper, water, etc.) - the money will be used to plant trees in any community of Shaye’s choice that has an FSC-certified forest.
