Free Paper EcoHangers Replace Wire Hangers

If you've ever done dry cleaning, you've probably noticed the wire hangers that come with every piece of clothing returned to you. About 3.5 billion of them escape from closets around the country and end up in landfills. The EcoHanger was created as alternative — it's made of 100% recycled paper and pays for itself with advertising. Basically, dry cleaning companies get the hangers for free because of the direct marketing ads on the hangers. So far, EcoHangers have appeared in New York, San Francisco and other large cities. The distributor, HangerNetwork, is trying to get more dry cleaners to use the new hangers. :: Via Green Options via CNET

The ultimate solution would be reusable hangers. Put a $.10 deposit on nicer hangers, redeemable next time you did your dry cleaning.
This is a step in the right direction though.
Hey guys: watch those claims. You say the ecohangers are 100% recycled paper, but they sure don't look like it to me. They are surfcaed with polymer; must be at least 5% polyethylene or polyurethane in there. Better get it right.
Ii saw these ecohangers at my cleaner. pretty cool. nice ads. I'd rather have these in my closet than those ugly wire ones. this one seem to be so obvious. wish i'd thought of that.
You mention "Free paper Hangers" on your Web page. We have three dry cleaning stores and would like to know where and how the free hangers can be obtained.
Thank you.

how do we get these hangers?
For those in north-west London, my dry-cleaning company provides nice wooden hangers for a small initial fee which are subsequently recycled.
In addition, the customers can choose to receive their clothes with or without the plastic wrapping - indeed most choose without.

It seems that the Ecohanger people have sold their soul, caring more about corporate profit than doing what is right for the environment. After dry cleaners rejected their version of paper hangers because the necks did not fit into their equipment and the construction quality was so low the hangers kept popping apart, Ecohangers switched to an all PLASTIC neck and hook!
They claim it is still good for the environment because plastic can be recycled, but come on.. its still plastic, its from a petroleum source, the recycling of plastic causes more harm and uses more energy and well, its just plain wrong as it is the ultimate in hypocrisy!
Do you really expect the average American to recycle the hooks and necks of these hangers, taking each one apart and separating them individually? I don't think so. They will just end up back in the same landfills these people claim to be helping.
Hello,
I am the president of a company called Hanger Media Group LLC. We also advertise on hangers that are given to Dry Cleaners at no charge.
I have to defend our colleagues in trade with their Eco-Hanger. It is easy to separate their hangers plastic hook from its body ( I have tried) their glue still separates easily and anyone who cares about the environment, even a small bit can help out and separate paper from plastic. This goes for our hanger, The closet billboard TM as well.
Not only are our companies helping to solve a problem ( because no matter how you look at it our hangers are better than wire hangers) but we also help the American Dry Clean industry to cut costs. This helps them save money, stay in business and not pass more costs on to the consumer.
As we know the economy is terrible right now, but we are trying to do our part to keep the economy rolling. This is a step in the right direction. Due to other international patents and intellectual property right laws have you ever thought that they changed their design for other reasons. Or that they couldn't use a all paper display because it just wont work. If it doesn't work then thee is no alternative.
Lets appreciate the works of entrepreneurs striving to become the answer to a problem that may reduce harmful impact to the environment.
I can not speak on behalf of Hanger Network but can tell you that the recycled plastic that we use comes from scrapped plastic from plastic injection mold factories. All that happens with are plastic is that it gets grinned up in a wood chipper like machine and then melted into our product. No other processing is done. This plastic we are using is stopped from being thrown out into the regular garbage and left to sit in a landfill for years. Although it may end up there in the end we made a product out of scrap and did not use any new plastic.
