Changing the Climate: It Can Start with 2People

Social networking has become just about the biggest thing since sliced bread for computer-savvy folks, who use sites like MySpace and Facebook to stay in touch, meet new people and as a forum to disseminate their own ideas. This idea has spread to the green sector, with sites like WorldCoolers, Zaadz and dotherightthing all uniting people and attempting to harness the power of word-of-mouth marketing to raise awareness about topics and ideas that need all the awareness they can get. 2People is another such site, focused on creating an ongoing dialogue about global warming. It doesn't stop with generating conversation and buzz, though; their goal is to create a network of 20 million climate voters by 2008, and make climate the dominant issue in the 2008 elections, thereby closing the gap between what's scientifically necessary and what's politically possible. In an interview over at Eco-Chick, founder Paul Mitchell admits, "That number sounds pretty high, but exponential growth can get us there in a short time -- all the polls show that there are far more than 20 million people in the U.S. who already get this issue. They’re just not connected. They’re not empowered. We aim to do that." It's always hard to predict the chances of success from these ventures -- they're founded on good ideas and appear to have smart, savvy people behind them -- so we'll just have to wait and see. One thing is for sure: with the release of the IPCC report (and on the eve of our Convenient Truths video contest), their timing is good. Global warming is catching on more and more in mainstream media and popular culture, so we hope, for the planet's sake, they reach their goal. If you've been meaning to learn more about global warming, or find more people who care as much as you do, click on over and join up. It all starts with two people...::2People via ::Eco-Chick

We must all recognize the political power that we as individuals weild with our wallets. Where we spend our money matters way more than we realize and by supporting companies with envrironmental and social ethics we are all helping to change the traditional capitalist system that has destroyed so much of our world.

Thanks Tree Hugger for such a great resource.
