SF Recycling & Disposal Artist in Residence Program

Featuring a cycle of local artists, SF Recycling & Disposal's Artist in Residence Program aims to use art to inspire people to recycle more and conserve natural resources. The program selects artists local to San Francisco and provides them with a residency, which includes 24-hour access to materials they gather from San Francisco's refuse, along with access to a 2,000-square foot studio, supplies and equipment, a stipend, and a reception/exhibit, held once a quarter; the next exhibit is planned for January 26 - 27, when artists Nome Edonna and Sudhu Tewari. In exchange for the residency, the artists create art for the permanent collection, and talk to students, tour groups (led the third Saturday of each month), and the media about the experience of turning trash into treasure. The 44-acre site is where most of San Francisco's garbage and recyclables are temporarily dumped before going to a landfill or recycling plant.
