GreenDrinks Buenos Aires!

Take Action (events)

Argentina’s capital has the privilege to have TreeHugger founder, Graham Hill, in town until mid-March. In order to celebrate his presence, local correspondent Paula Alvarado (me) and him would love to try to get a gang of people together for the first Buenos Aires Green Drinks. The idea is to pick a place where we could meet up next Friday, February 2nd and have some drinks to talk about green issues. Please email graham at treehugger dot com if you are interested to hear more, or if you know any people in Buenos Aires that might be interested. Also, let us know if you have any suggestions for an appropriate location. Viva Argentina!

hey, i would love to come to this event. what time and where? i have to admit to being a bit ignorant on these kinds of issues, so this sounds like a great place to learn about them and what i can do.

This sounds great, I'm glad I found it in time.

And, as Rosie mentioned, hopefully these discussions can evolve into some sort of collective action.

I'd suggest Bio, in Palermo (Humboldt 2199), as an obvious location for the meeting -- all ingredients are 'organic' and 'local' (at least local to Argentina)... and they have numerous vegan or vegetarian options on the menu if anyone wants something more than drinks. And whether we plan to eat or not, it would be wise to support such an ecologically-conscious enterprise, since the market for organic foods is still quite nascent here. Also, they have some tables on the sidewalk -- which qualifies as 'wheelchair accessible' in Buenos Aires; though the restaurant is in an old building and thus the entrance and interior are not nearly wheelchair accessible.

The city of buenos aires gets all of its drinking water from the highly polluted rio de la plata. The river is polluted because the govt., state and federal, turns a blind eye to polluters and in my opinion knowingly allows the water utility to provide water that is contaminated.

I think this could be one of the environmental issues to tackle. when is the govt. going to face up to its responsibilities. How much longer can BA draw its water from that river? should other sources, like a resevoir, be considered? and fast?
