IKEA Forever: Bemz Covers for your Worn Out Furniture

So who sells millions of identical chairs and sofas all over the world, that eventually are going to get a bit tattered, torn up by the evil cat or stained beyond recognition at too many parties? IKEA. So talk about a brilliant idea: make aftermarket slipcovers for the IKEA line, even pieces that are no longer in production. Add a wider range of fabrics, patterns, colours. We love it because it is so simple and logical an idea, and will stretch out the lives of millions of Ektorps, Karlandas and Kramfors worldwide. ::Bemz via ::New York Times

Wow these prices are pretty steep - over half of the price of *brand new* furniture from IKEA. Seems pretty out of line. I understand the merits of re-use, but there has to be some kind of economic incentive too.

i agree. the covers seems to be about half the price of the furniture they're covering.
ouch.

Terrible company. They charged my credit card waited 3 months to ship my slipcover and are currently ignoring my multiple requests to ship it back.

You global warming freaks are getting real sickening. That's what the earth does, it gets warmer and then it gets cooler. It has been doing that for centuries. The whole global warming thing is all about money now. There are so many new companies out there that have been created because of this myth and they keep giving so much money to the climatologists that of course they are going to keep up the propaganda. There are an awful lot of honest climatologists that refute the fact that it's mans fault for the current 1/2 degree in temperature change over the past century. One of them even put $10K on the line challenging Al Gore and his theories. But has Al responded, of course not. He knows deep down in his heart that this is all hogwash.
Look at the factory up in Canada that makes the batteries for the hybrids. There isn't a living plant within a mile of the factory. How good is that for the environment? Ethanol isn't the answer either. It takes way too much fossil fuels to make ethanol for it to even have an impact on our environment. I don't have a problem with alternate energy, but we have to be smart about it. Wild grass fields are far more renewable and cheaper that growing corn and having to plant it every year and fertilize it, then harvest it. All the diesel used for that is breathtaking, not to mention watering the corn fields. Wild prairies are the way to go. They grow on there own, weather there is a drought or a lot of rain. You don't need to harvest it and it always grows back by itself. The University of MN did a study and it's far cheaper and as uses less to make more alternative fuels.
Well, I hope this has enlightened a few of you out there.
Sleep well with your air conditioners running to keep you comfortable. I know I will.

p.s. if I started to ramble on, I'm sorry. I just get so frustrated with the lefts agendas.

oh my lord, this is an article about simple conservation, yet matt here decided that it's prudent to comment with a rant about climate change.

no one was talking about climate change on this post, just about slip covers for sofas.

where's the leftist agenda? i only see one person on this post with an agenda and that's you, matt... everyone else was talking about slip covers. personally, i wanted to shop for a cover for my sofa and came across your ridiculous attempt to "enlighten" people with whom you don't agree.

mind you, i'm a little more annoyed that your argument is founded on a belief that (a) sofa slipcovers have anything to do with "global warming freaks" (b) no one's point of view is valid but yours (hence the term "freaks") (c) a tiny minority of climatologists are the only "honest" ones (d) al gore actually cares about taking up every little challenge that comes along (mind you, he's been independently wealthy - and that means not jumping at every bet or dare that comes along) (e) everyone you don't agree with agrees with one another (f) thinking people aren't already well aware that corn-based ethanol [sugar ethanol requires a mere fraction of the chemical and energy input] is a ridiculous agribusiness-funded pipe dream promoted by the bush administration (g) we don't already know that the internal combustion engine was originally designed to run on vegetable oil (h) "leftist... freaks" aren't already well aware of the myriad of fuels and energy harvesting that are possible outside of gw bush's much-louted ethanol offerings and (i) people looking for upholstery really care about what you think about climate change.

well... i guess that last one's spot-on because i was pissed off enough to interrupt my furniture research to write this garbage.

rant for rant. now, please, find a more appropriate place to air your grievances.
