Transformer furniture lets you have multiple functions in a single space- it does not make a lot of sense to have a bedroom empty for 16 out of 24 hours. It may not even make sense to have a bedroom if you have furniture like Mobelform. with a few quick moves, this sleek Italian desk transforms...

In many cities, high housing costs mean smaller apartments, yet furniture, for the most part has not evolved to meet the challenge. Mobelform makes some pretty extraordinary pieces- (see ::Apartment Therapy for a $ 20,000 living room set that seems bigger than most apartments) and Italian furniture is expensive, but what an inspiration. ::Mobelform

It's interesting, but not very Feng Shui(?). Sleeping under your desk doesn't seem the most restful headspace to be in. This design might be too clever by half...

One of the key aspects of being able to live in a small home comfortably is furniture such as this which enables maximum use of minimalized space. Enabling a room to be multifunctional, as in this example of a bedroom being used as an office/study, reduces the need for separate rooms devoted to single functions. I hope to see more intelligent multifunctional, space-saving furniture as this in future. Having said this, I do think many people would be slightly uncomfortable sleeping under their computer. I have seen raised beds where the desk and cabinet space is below. Anyway, each individual will have his own preference.

College students have been combining beds and desks for years by lofting their beds and putting desks underneath. While not quite as fancy as the above, it certainly gets the job done.
