Train Travel: European Destinations for Fall
by Kyeann Sayer, Nomad on 10. 2.06

What European train journeys do readers recommend for mid to late October? Last spring, friends and I forewent a quick Moscow/St. Petersburg flight in favor of the train. Now, the lighter footprint commitment has me fighting cheap EasyJet urges while planning to visit friends in Rome and around Switzerland after some time at Paris's Ethical Fashion Show. Any advice on car-free adventure between Paris, Rome, and Zürich? Any good general train itin recs for other autumn travelers? Also: don't forget to weigh in on the "To Fly or Not to Fly?" debate! ::

I haven't travelled extensively by train in the South of Europe. However, Scandinavia is a good destination for rail-travel enthusiasts.
I think I posted this last time it was asked, but Copenhagen to Stockholm is a gorgeous journey. The view from your window will be something like this: lake, trees, lake, lake, trees, lake, trees, lake, lake, lake, elk, lake, trees.
I don't know much about trains, but Mark Smith certainly does. He is a train enthusiast who has travelled all over the world by train. His website The Man In Seat 61 (www.seat61.com) tells you all you need to know about train travel.
I am going to Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in October.
Try looking on the rail Europe website they have some good information on there about traveling around Europe. I believe that they go into Switzerland and southern France as furthest south point and Scandinavians Finland!!!1
However yes you should should stop taking flights the amount of fuel consumption far out ways trains, but the rush is wicked!! Takof is amazing, trains are calm though
