Lost Early Modern Prefab Found in LA

Design & Architecture (prefab)

After WWII there were a lot of airplane factories and staff with time on thier hands, and lots of people who needed housing; factory built housing was a logical step. Famed Industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss (late works include the princess phone and the Polaroid SX70 Camera) and architect Edward Larabee Barnes built two prototypes in the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft factory. they had only 28 parts, a honeycomb and aluminum skin, and lots of glass, so it felt much bigger than its 810 square feet. It never went into production and it was assumed that they were both lost, but one was just hiding in South Pasadena, and was discovered when its new owner applied to tear it down. It is now going to be restored and sold. ::Metropolis
