Knit a River

Knitting has grown from being a hobby for grandmothers to becoming a hip way to get together with other women (and men). Knitting clubs are springing up around town, meeting at pubs, and creating outrageous and wonderful pieces. I Knit London was started as a place to meet knitters. It has taken on the Knit a River project as its own. They are creating a unique petition for WaterAid. This charity uses practical solutions to provide safe water, effective sanitation and hygiene education to the world’s poorest people. In response, knitters from all over England are contributing knitted blue squares. These will be stitched together to form a vast river which will be used for campaigning for the charity. Last month they took over a train on the tube and knitted their way, as they travelled from one end of the line to the other. In a few weeks they will be taking all of the squares to the Thames River and having a mass sew-in to put together their blue river. It’s enough to make you want to pick up those needles... :: I Knit via :: Time Out

I'm totally knitting a square to mail in. I'm all the way in LA, but I think it'll be worth the CO2 shipping emissions --
