Almost-Prefab Sauna on the Baltic

Whenever clients want bigger windows and we want to control the amount of opening to save energy and cost, we tell them that a window is not a wall of glass, but a picture frame, controlling, complementing and defining a view. We have rarely seen better examples than this, from a sauna by Heikkinen & Komonen Architects, on the Baltic near Helsinki. "The building turns its back towards the hill and north and opens towards the sea in south. Western terrace catches the evening sun and the eastern one the sun in the morning. The tilted roof above the terraces is covered with transparent corrucated polycarbonate. The cottage is built on site, but the design is based on modular system which could easily serve also pre-fabrication." ::Arkinetia via ::MocoLoco
