US EPA Buying 100% Green Power

In the "better late than never" category,
[The US Environmental Protection Agency] is the first and only major federal agency to purchase green power equal to 100 percent of its estimated annual electricity use nationwide.While companies such as Whole Foods and organizations such as the National Geographic Society beat the nation's environmental watchdog to the punch on this, Chris at Groovy Green is right: this could set an example for the rest of the US government. We'll keep our fingers crossed. ::US Environmental Protection Agency via Groovy GreenAs of September 2006, EPA will be purchasing nearly 300 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of green power annually in the form of renewable energy certificates (RECs) or delivered product. This amount is equal to 100 percent of the total estimated annual electricity consumption at all of EPA’s nearly 200 facilities across the country—enough electricity to power 27,084 homes for an entire year.
