Want an electric car, but can't afford the pricey Tesla Roadster? Can't get your hands on the electric Mini Cooper? Having a hard time finding one of the other elusive electric cars available today? eBay has a deal for you: a 2002 Toyota RAV4 EV. It's got 45,500 miles, tops out at about 78-81 mph (depending on the weather) and can fit easily into a daily commuting lifestyle of 70 miles or so. According to the ad, "The RAV4 EV is a practical and functional SUV and the unique battery placement does not compromise the storage space. Unlike some electric vehicles, this car has room for 5 passengers, plus cargo space in the rear. The dashboard is just like a "regular car" and the amenities are similar. This car offers heat & air conditioning, power windows & door locks, Anti-Lock Brakes, Dual Front Air Bags, AM/FM/CD Player and much more!" The car has 15,500 miles left on the battery warranty, and can be yours today -- better hurry, the auction ends at 11pm today, September 1. Instant gratification will cost you, though: it's got a "buy it now" price of $62,000; maybe you can bid low and get lucky. ::eBay RAV4 EV via ::AutoblogGreen

Dear car companies,
Here's another one of those electric cars that you say won't sell. $35k and climbing for a 4 year old car. BTW, good luck with those fuel cell powertrains.
Sincerely,
TAP
Chevron had inherited control of the worldwide patent rights for the NiMH EV-95 battery when it merged with Texaco, which had purchased them from General Motors. Chevron's unit won a $30,000,000 settlement from Toyota and Panasonic, and the production line for the large NiMH batteries was closed down and dismantled. Only smaller NiMH batteries, incapable of powering an electric vehicle or plugging in, are currently allowed by Chevron-Texaco.
WAY TO GO TAP!!!
Middle finger to the big oil co's and schwartzeneger, and anyone else that either turns a blind eye or is actually involved in this scandal!!!!!
Hrm.. NASA says that global warming is a farce and we've been cooling since 1998....
Screw the facts!!!
global warming think of it as a bets and losses game wheather you bet against it and lose your loss is the all landmass in the world if you bet for it you lose your car...that brown color in the sunset and the fear of lighting a match in L.A. without igniting the sky...come on guys its a better investment to go green
i think green is the way to go, noone knows how to proceed to get the masses going and unfortunatly untill there is mass awareness (took about 10 years for people to start buying hybrids like mad) people will continue to want to feel safe in there 8-120k investments by betting on what they think is a sure thing. funny part is if you spend 50 bucks a week on gas (used to be easy for me) and keep your electric for lets say 7 years you save 16,800 in gas, some of you may argue for repair costs, but you can average those as well against the standard gas car over time.
With a household of 4 people (kids using computers hot water, yadda yadda) and being off grid you could save an average of $120 a month (10080 over seven years) anyone have a mortgage , anyone want to put 26,880 toward principal or simply for a newer Ellectric Vehicle that payed you to drive it?
I can't beleive that Texaco and GM did that, but then maybe again I can, they sure are dirty business people. But they need to come to the realization that we don't get global warming to stop (which would cause use to go into an ice age b/c of all the of the cold fresh water from the artic, greenland, antartica, melting into the ocean causing the global ocean currents to stop completely, etc) there money won't be worth sh*t!!!! Some poeple need to come the realization like the rest of us smart ones that WE DO DEPEND ON THE ENVIRONMENT FOR SURVIVAL AND THAT WE ARE NOT IMMORTAL!!!!
I say "Hell ya!" to electric cars powered by solar! GM needs to realize they can't control the people forever and that we won't wait for them to do something! Other people are building electric and they are going to kick business like GM in the rear!
Try looking up "Who killed the electric car?" it will let you in on what the oil companies have done since the 80s.
