ExxonMobil's refusal to address climate change has long been a source of anger for those concerned about global warming. However, the company's effort to undermine scientific research and consensus on the issue should be an outrage for anyone who is interested in science and the pursuit of truth. In fact, the oil giant’s efforts to deceive the public recently prompted an unprecedented response from the Royal Society, Britain’s premier scientific academy. In a letter to ExxonMobil, the Society demanded that “the company withdraws support for dozens of groups that have ‘misrepresented the science of climate change by outright denial of the evidence’”. The letter notes that ExxonMobil contributed roughly $2.9 million to 39 such organizations including the infamous Competitive Enterprise Institute. Obviously, we urge our readers to limit their gasoline consumption, but when the need to refuel occurs, please consider that money spent at ExxonMobil contributes to these disgraceful efforts.
