New York Jets to Build ‘Green’ Facility

Given last night’s kickoff to the 2006 NFL season, I thought it an opportune time to deliver some football related news. Unfortunately, the only green aspect of the sport tends to be the grass fields that remain at some of the league’s stadiums. Other than that, green is featured prominently on the New York Jets’ uniform. Perhaps, it is no coincidence that New York’s third favorite team, also known as Gang Green, announced plans to seek LEED certification for its new headquarters and training facility. The $50 million facility will occupy 26 acres, and will include a 120,000 square foot building. Although the complex will not open until 2008, this may provide an example for other teams to follow as new developments are planned. At the very least, this announcement should finally give Jets fans reason to be proud. See also ::Football Versus Global Warming
