Teko Socks, whom we first wrote about in late 2004, continue to push the envelope of ecologically enhanced technical socks. (Recycled polyester, organic cotton, eco-merino, non-toxic dyes, recycled packaging, wind power, etc.) Last month, in one example, they announced that Teko had become the first company from the US outdoor industry to sign on as a participant in the Chicago Climate Exchange. CCX is said to be North America's only, and the world's first, greenhouse gas (GHG) emission registry, reduction and trading system for all six greenhouse gases. In Teko's case, they will be trading the emissions caused by their supply chain, including the transport of raw materials. In other news they’ve also announced they are supporting their supplier of merino wool with the implementation of a biodiversity plan. 10% of the land area from the farm will set set aside under a Conservation Covenant. The farm in Australia’s Tasmania is already recognised for its “holistically sustainable farming techniques.” ::Teko Socks.
