Liz Hurley Quitting Acting to Concentrate on Organics

liz-hurley-organics.jpgJust about a year ago, we reported that Elizabeth Hurley would be launching her own brand of organic baby food, saying that she was inspired by her three-year-old son Damian, and that "I found all I wanted to do was give him perfect, unadulterated food. It would be wonderful to come up with good, maybe even convenience, food which is really healthy, low-calorie, organic and delicious." She is so committed to this vision that she's giving up acting to concentrate on her new endeavor. Saying "it's the only place I want to be," she has retreated to her estate in the British countryside, and is busily making plans to go green. ""When we get our organic status we're going to farm properly and we're going to have a herd of cows and proper sheep and proper chickens, and we're going to have small amounts of Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs. I've joined the breeders' club already and I'm quite excited about it," she said about her lifestyle change. Talk about walking the walk... ::Virgin.net via ::Ecorazzi

Elisabeth Hurley was an actress?!

No, Elizabeth Hurley was.

She's getting out of acting? Guess the Oscar for Best Actress will be wide open now.

"gave up her acting career"

Oh yeah, she's walking the talk sporting her Prada shoes and Versace slacks.

Too bad we can't all give up our day jobs and live so close to the salt of the earth-types.

Jason,

Yes, it is too bad we can't all do what she's doing. Why not give her some credit? Would you rather she sport her Prada and Versace solely on red carpets and exclusive clubs, instead of while promoting organic food?

Yeah well we don't need to rip on her about her decision to transition. I see it as a conciousness change that can spawn more change.

The masses are impressionable and don't really think to much for themselves so by her just saying that she is going green it makes a big impact. It is kind of weird how it works...

I used to live 2 miles from her 'estate' (it's a nice farmhouse with quite a bit of land but it's not an estate!) and i'm sure she can do what she is saying, if only to blend in more with the local hunting n' shooting set. Kate Moss, Madonna, Liz Hurley - all these glamourous people have the country squire fantasy and seem to keep coming to Gloucestershire. At least it means they can keep themselves to themselves and not mix with too many 'civilians' (Liz's word for us non-celebs apparently...)

But somehow I don't think she will be getting her hands dirty herself, i'm sure she has a little chappy who will do all that.

I'd drink her milk.

i think this is a good thing.

MV -- FYI, the term "civilian" is simply innocuous shorthand widely used by folks in showbiz to delineate those who are not employed in the entertainment industry. While Hurley may indeed be using it to refer to non-celebs, it is almost universally an affectionate term for those not afflicted with the strange and powerful urge to make fools of themselves for money.

And yes, her efforts may not be enough for some people, but IMHO that should not be used to detract from the fact that at least she is trying. The aptly phrased "decision to transition" should be supported and encouraged, not derided. As you know, early adopters like Hurley and other celebs make going green cool, and that is often the only thing that moves that segment of 'civilians' who are influenced by such things.

Give the woman a break. She is one of the few who have been wildly successful and now wishes to utilize her celebrity to model and encourage change.

The 'holier than thou' attitude -- or perhaps it should be called 'greener than thou' -- has got to go.
