Deliver Your Own Version of An Inconvenient Truth

A couple months back, we heard Al Gore mention that he'd be training over 1,000 slideshow enthusiasts on how to give his Inconvenient Truth presentation, so they could spread the good word about the bad shape our atmosphere is in and get more people on board in the fight against global warming. They now have a website to support the project, so any TreeHugger readers who want to get up in the limelight and perfect your own version of Gore's slideshow should apply; if you're selected, there will be seven two-day training sessions between September 2006 and January 2007 in Nashville, Tennessee, where trainees will brush up on climate change science, learn some dynamic new presentation skills, and develop a new online learning community for ongoing activities. Sound good? Check out the website for more info, and fill out an application to be one of Al Gore's new disciples and climate change's next big hope. ::The Climate Project Training Program via ::Gristmill

I wish Al Gore was training 1000 people to do presentations on solutions as well and have told him so. The one deep criticism I have of his movie is that it doesn't talk enough about the available solutions.
At the book signing where I gave Gore my proposal he said that political will is a renewable resource and we desperately need that will focused on building the solutions to climate change that we now know are technologically available.
Yes, solutions are definitely a good thing.
But I've noticed something in the past few weeks: even people who are inclined to believe climate change is happening often can still stand to be nudged into "ok, I have no doubt any more." The movie and this presentation are very effective at doing that.
The most convincing scene seems to be the historical graph of atmospheric carbon throughout the various ice ages and then the current level being off-the-chart. When they see the current level of carbon, they understand it is no longer a natural cycle that we're dealing with.
Solutions are good, no doubt about that -- and this is a very necessary first step as Gore points out.
An Inconvenient Truth didn't really go much into solutions but I feel that to do so would have been scope creep for the film. There is still a large majority of people out there who doubt that global warming is a valid concern. The first step is getting people to think and reconsider. Solutions are the next step.
Just wanted to let y'all know that the application to be a trainee has moved it URL to here: http://www.theclimateproject.org
The other links mentioned should be updated with http://www.theclimateproject.org as well! Keep up the great work, treehuggers!
