Cyclean Pedal Powered Washing Machine

I'd love to refrain from using the pat phrase "clean and green" to describe Cyclean, the pedal powered washing machine, but this thing really truly is. Invented by Alex Gadsen, the Cyclean was born out of frustration with waste and a hankering to tinker. The unit is constructed of used washing machine parts, a wheelbarrow and a bike. The machine is currently a working prototype, though Alex is looking for investors to help finance increase production. Cyclean is popular on the green event circuit and has been used for local demonstrations, and various local press and TV appearances. This could be the start of a whole new business concept - Laundro-Gyms! ::Via The Observer

The great thing about person-powered inventions like this is that it saves energy (good for the world) and money. But many people don't think that is saves money 2 ways, less energy consumed and you can get rid of your gym memebership :) Besides, no excuses with this one. Your clothes get dirty, they need to get washed, so you workout.

I read about a dog-powered washing machine once and for the life of me can't conceive of how it would work...

I love it!! And I want one! I also love the Laundro-Gym idea...good stuff.

I'm really happy to see this----I had asked my brother last year if he could put together just such a thing--not only for washers, but other motor powered appliances as well as water pumps.

I have thought about this washing machine. Finally there is someone put his heart in it. Besides the saving money and environment, there are numerous of benefits-it can teach your kid to be independent, prevent the diabetes..etc

I would like to have one for myself.

Any idea where I can get blueprints for one of these things? I'd like to make this a part of a sustainability campaign for my college campus.

I remember "Mary Ann" washing clothes this way on "Gilligan's Island". I wondered why couldn't someone make a real one.

This is a great design and Im a real fan!

Just wondering how you could modify/ re design this pedal powered washing machine so it is a feasable option for developing countries which cant find old washing machines in the tip to convert?

Any feedback would be much appreciated
