Ecodrive, a large Canadian supplier of electric vehicles, announced today that they will be releasing the world's first commercially available electric motorcycles and scooters powered by Polymer Lithium-Ion (PLI) batteries. The company says the polymer technology will overcome many of the shortcomings associated with other types of rechargeable batteries. The batteries will be used in their E-cycles and EVT lines of electric motorcycles. :: Ecodrive

"The company says the polymer technology will overcome many of the shortcomings associated with other types of rechargeable batteries." - well, propably except high prize ... anyone has an idea what these cost? (they don't write it on their website and I'm not in the mood to write them) ...

Their website looks cheezy. This makes me suspicious.
Check out this site www.VectrixUSA.com.

Typical american response coming from a typical american; That top speed has GOT to be increased, if I can't keep up with traffic even on side streets I don't understand why I wouldn't just ride my bike (aside from the sweaty guy factor).

Agreed - 32km/h? That's about 20mph, tops. Would something that anemic even be approved for use on public roads?

jump to top FlatGreg says:

Holy crap, man. It goes 20mph max, and has to be recharged after 27 miles? Give me a bottle of Gatorade and a 10-speed bicycle, and I can go farther than that
Unsurprisingly, they don't list prices on their website. I suspect that if anyone saw the prices, they'd damage themselves from laughing so hard.

This company just started a new dealership in Regina, and I was down there last week checking these bikes out. I thought their web site was cheesy too, but try squeezing the shock housing on one of these Taiwan bikes, and the word Velveeta comes to mind. They want $1799 for them, and their old stock still has the SLA batteries.

On the other hand, The EVT scooters have done okay with profesional reviewers, but the E-Max scooters are still the best. Kudos for pushing the envelope on battery technology though.

EVT's site has this to say about the Lithium battery technology : "The day when we can travel over hundreds of kilometers on pennies per charge is now feasible" said ETG Director of Product Development, Gordon World. "We are continuing to push the envelope in advanced, sustainable vehicle technologies, to expand our electric transportation product line to all applications, from personal to public transportation."

If that means at least a 100 mile range and a top speed equal to the current EVT-4000s (40 mph). Then I'm very interested.
