William McDonough on Nuclear Power

by Michael Graham Richard, Gatineau, Canada on 07. 7.06
Science & Technology (solar)

william-mcdonough-sun-01.jpgIn response to a question from GBN's Peter Schwartz on why some green thinkers neglect to mention nuclear energy as a viable renewable energy source, William McDonough said: "Don't get me wrong: I love nuclear energy! It's just that I prefer fusion to fission. And it just so happens that there's an enormous fusion reactor safely banked a few million miles from us. It delivers more than we could ever use in just about 8 minutes. And it's wireless!" Quote from 2006 Fortune Brainstorm conference in Aspen, CO, via ::Z+Blog, via ::Open the Future.

Thanks Bill, but now we need you to get vocal about Indian Point!

How very clever of him.
How much will it cost to harness all that energy from the sun by the way?

jump to top James Barker [TypeKey Profile Page] says:

What if nuclear fission reactors become the only "viable" option (investment-wise) for the near term future as we pass peak oil and gas and have yet to develop good enough hydrogen fuel cell or NaS battery technology?

jump to top Karl says:

Surely energy from expert professional motivated retired baby boomers will resolve the energy crisis.

Energy is plentiful.
Energy use is often misguided, misdirected, idle, ill-advised, or motivated by greed.

jump to top Cornstoves says:

Nice quote, nuclear power is great when kept at arm's length -- i.e. 150 million kilometers away.

jump to top Justin says:

That's right, my calculator is powered by an extra-terrestrial nuclear-fusion powerplant, which transmits energy through thin air.
Tesla would be proud....

jump to top Carl says:

Fusion is a distant power-producing technology, and it is not safe in its current use in acedemic labs. These reactions produce significant radionuclides; however, when the technlogy developes to the point that it actually "works," then the non-signific radionuclide producing reactants will be commercially used -- in 20 to 50 years, hopefully.
