Find Your Way to the Bathroom with LED Encrusted Tiles

Ceramic tile installations are meant to last a long time- We hope that LED's live as long as their reputation or this bathroom is going to look pretty silly in a couple of years. The idea of marking steps and edges with LED's is interesting; they could be a great safety feature. Steuler Tile of Germany has introduced a line of ceramics featuring LED's, primarily for decorative purposes. Available as single LED inserts or continuous strips. We look forward to LED's becoming part of the fabric of our buildings- when a light source is cool and long-lasting, why not build it into corners, stairs and doorknobs? ::Steuler Tiles via ::Trendir

I thought that LEDs contained mercury in them? With mercury being such a problem for landfills, wouldnt it be much more envrironmentally sustainable to create lights that both lasted longer and didnt contain hazardous waste? I think most people dont know that LEDs have mercury in them, and that could lead to problems down the road. At least with flourescent lights, most people know not to just toss them in the garbage when they are spent. My point is just that if you are going to post about LEDs, you should use it to note that they contain mercury, and that when or if they need to be disposed of, to do so properly.

LA: Flourescent fixtures, even our fave compact flourescents, have a little bit of mercury in them. LEDs, to the best of our knowledge, do not contain mercury and last a very long time so they do not need to be disposed of regularly.

LEDs do not contain mercury: they are silicon-based (just like microprocessors...) and maybe they are one of the few light sources that have no moving parts, no fragile glass environments, no mercury, no toxic gasses, and no filament
Maybe the previous comment is confusing LEDs with fluorescent lights.
