TreeHugger Picks: Green Restaurants

We TreeHuggers can't get enough local, organic food from our farmer's markets and CSAs, but sometimes, we have to take a break and go out for some food. It's good to know there are so many places to go that still embrace our taste for TreeHugger fare. Here are our picks for restaurants to hit up this weekend.
1) Dine carbon-neutral with Bordeaux Quay or Terrior; we don't care which was climate-friendly first.
2) For those who need good food fast, stop by O'Naturals in the northeast, Burgerville in the northwest or Chipotle in lots of other places.
3) Looking for straight-up organic? Seattle's Sterling Café or Washington, D.C.'s Restaurant Nora (the US's first certified organic eatery) are good bets.
4) If local food tickles your fancy, Canteen in London, Blue Hill in New York, Mixt Greens in San Francisco and Habana Outpost, also in New York, are worth a look.
5) Nothing near you? Check out the Green Restaurant Association or the Happy Cow's Vegetarian Guide for more places to eat green while eating out.

To add to the list, a big thumbs up goes to R. Thomas Grill in Atlanta. For a city as large as Atlanta there aren't too many choices for the conscientious diner. R. Thomas is an excellent joint, and open 24/7 to boot!
Sages' Cafe in Salt Lake City, UT is fantastic.
A good selection of vegetarian and vegan; mostly organic, very green practices.
The Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) boast a number of restaurants that commit to use local, organic produce. They cooperatively promote through regional events, including an annual Dine Fresh Dine Local day. http://www.dinefreshdinelocal.com/
Check out Central Avenue Bakery, 173 Central Avenue, Pacific Grove, CA 93950. 831/373-2000. www.centralvenuebakery.com This is a fantastic green restaurant. Tina, the owner, buys local organic, grinds her own grains daily to make the most delicious breads and pasteries. She uses dishes, silverware, and linens to avoid plastic and paper. She also uses compostable take out products. The food here is the best possible. She has bread, pasteries, entrees like spinach lasagna, pizza, stir fries, quiche, soups, salads, a juice bar and a coffee bar. The place is wireless, non-smoking, has lots of windows, tables, and a corner for children to play with toys. It is a warm welcoming clean place. The food is prepared and served with love. Tina is planning to have weekend family dancing with live music. This place is unique and a prototype for the type of food establishments we need in our country. It is 3 minutes from Cannery Row and 3 minutes from New Monterey. Check it out.
For a fine dining experience in organic steaks, seafood and vegetarian dishes, I recommend Maxwell and Dunne's in Plainview, New York on Long Island! http://www.maxwellanddunnes.com
