Organic Bouquet Delivers Carbon Neutral Flowers

It seems that we can't open a newspaper or a web browser without reading about businesses, enterprises, events and the like signing up to neutralize their carbon emissions. From films (like An Inconvenient Truth and Syriana) to albums (like the latest from David Gilmour and Kelley Stoltz) to laptop computers, there isn't anything that can't be made climate neutral. Even the World Cup is doing it's part to mitigate climate change. The latest to add their name to the list is Organic Bouquet. The US's first organic floral company has announced a partnership with The Carbon Trust (who've also helped Ecotone Publishing go climate neutral) to purchase carbon offsets to mitigate greenhouse gases generated from shipping the company’s flowers.
Organic Bouquet will be participating in the Climate Trust’s Truck Stop Electrification Program, which reduces wasteful diesel emissions at truck stops where, each night, thousands of truckers idle their engines to power heating, air conditioning and appliances. The program will retrofit 275 "docking stations" at seven major truck stops along Interstate 5 (which runs along the west coast of the US from north of Seattle to south of LA) with "Shurepower" electrical outlets, allowing truckers to power their rigs with electricity rather than diesel fuel. The Climate Trust estimates this program will remove nearly 90,000 metric tons of CO2 over the next 16 years, the equivalent of taking 16,000 cars off the road or planting 180,000 trees. By offering a cleaner and cheaper alternative to diesel idling, the project will also save truckers an estimated 10 million gallons of fuel. offsetting is a great tool for companies like organic bouquet that have to ship every product they offer. problem is, the flowers pay the price during shipping and don't look half as good as they appear in the photos on their site.
I'm going to have to disagree on this one - I sent my partner a bouquet of tulips for valentines day and they looked great. The trip to Texas didn't hurt them at all - they were beautiful and lasted much longer than I thought they would.
I love the idea, but unfortunately, the one time I purchased from Organic Bouquet I endured completely horrible customer service and was left with the feeling they didn't care about their customers. The problem that arose was unique, but in the end, no flowers were ever delivered and I was stuck with an almost $100 bill that they refuse to refund. Despite some of the raves I read on the Internet about them, I have to say, Buyer Beware!
Don't growing flowers absorb CO2? Would be interesting to see if by simply growing flowers they are already offsetting the amount of CO2 generated by transporting them.
