Blue Lotus Sustainable Goods

bluelotus.jpgAs we’ve mentioned, Patagonia is one of the biggest retailers when it comes to using fiber made of post-consumer plastic. We recently found a few smaller companies that do the same thing, one of them being Blue Lotus. Based in California, Blue Lotus makes quality, durable products that are designed for both indoor and outdoor use such as their blankets. Since 1999, nearly 20% of their total blanket sales were from the Santa Cruz Collection (shown here), utilizing Fortrel EcoSpun™ fleece made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (one blanket uses about 18 1-liter bottles). This low-pill fabric meets or exceeds all industry standards for strength, shrinkage, and color fastness. In addition, the company sells baby blankets, grocery bags (which we really like), eco-fleece hats and sweat-shop free t-shirts. Blue Lotus donates time, blankets and support to various local and national community organizations that are working toward a sustainable future. Via ::IdealBite ::Blue Lotus

Blue Lotus also has amazing 100% organic cotton, fair-trade Conscious Carrier bags that you can take with you to the grocery store and use for bulk items -- from leaf spinach to organic nuts.
I don't leave home without 'em -- and my grocery subtracts the tare weight from the bags so it's all good & I have kept some plastic from the waste stream.
