Green Garden Style: Furniture

There is more to a garden than just plants; part of the fun is finding stylish furniture to relax in when the work is done, or when you just want to read a magazine in peace. Here is a rustic but modern looking twig chair made from south african poplar twigs. Created by designer team Twig, the stools are handcrafted by previously disadvantaged south african artisans. For the traditional look of teak furniture, more and more companies are starting to make use of environmentally friendly woods. Arbor Vetum, a british furniture company, is committed to producing high quality outdoor furniture using only the finest and most eco-friendly teak timbers. The company prefers “salvaging from early 20th Century structures because the timbers available from that period were some of the best the world has ever seen.” They are currently using “some fabulous ancient teak beams which we salvaged last year from an old French Military Hospital c 1904.” Their tables and chairs are made from reclaimed teak with traditional teak pegs as fixings whenever possible. ::via Ecologist
