from ICFF: D.E. Sellers Flatpack Wonders
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 05.23.06
d.e. SELLERS' takes a single sheet of FSC certified Europly, mixes "conceptual sensitivity with technical expertise", plays a CNC machine like a violin and creates furniture like this book-case without any waste at all. It needs no fasteners or glue and could be shipped in a (really big) envelope.

Here is the panel before assembly. The single panel series also includes chairs, a chaise longue and a not very comfortable looking set of four chairs and a table, all "beautiful, responsive, simple and sophisticated". ::DES Furniture

Why do they have to ship plywood from Europe to Texas for these shelves? That's a waste of energy. I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned.
Because Texas doesn't have any trees.?. Kidding!
Wouldn't it be cool if you could drop by the local Home Despot, buy a 4x8 plywood panel and get one fab'd for you on the spot?
...Or sell the idea to IKEA. They seem like a more logical implementor.
The pattern is right there - seems like you could make it up yourself with a square, a pencil and a saw.
If only I had a flat pack body to fit in a flat pack chair. I do dig the shelves though.
I'm loving the idea. Unfortunately, because it seems like it's more an art peice than plain affordable furniture, these will probably be massively overpriced.
I love the idea of farming out the design to local fab shops though. You pick out a plywood of your choice, and your local router-table, water-jet, or laser fabrication shop punches one out for you.
would almost completely eliminate the energy and costs associated with shipping. mighty green indeed.
