TreeHugger Picks: City Guides
by Collin Dunn, Corvallis, OR, USA on 05.17.06

Each city around the world lives TreeHugger a little bit differently. From books and maps to simple word of mouth, there are neverending ways and resources to keep it green. Here are just a few.
1) In New York, there's The Big Green Apple and the Green Apple Map.
2) In Los Angeles, Greenopia has all urban dwellers in the city of angels covered.
3) In London, Veggie & Organic London will help keep the food on your table as TreeHugger as possible.
4) Our "Tell Us About Your City" series yielded some excellent advice from the locals of Austin, Texas and Portland, Oregon. Stay tuned for more soon!
5) The Sustainable Ireland Cooperative is chock-full of info on the world of sustainability in Ireland.

In Washington DC, check out the SustainUS "Sustainable Map" and "Sustainable Living Guide" project. Go to www.sustainus.org and click on the "Washington DC" button to the left.
A number of times, I thought of putting together a site about all eco-goodies in the Bay Area around San Francisco ... maybe it is about time I did that!
Milwaukee has an online Green Map: www.wisconline.com/greenmap/milwaukee/
For Toronto see the Vegetarian Directory. It features restaurants by neighbourhood, and organic markets and environmental stores.
Don't forget that www.greenmap.org has a complete list of all the Green Maps. Over 200 have been published in nearly 50 different countries. These are great environmental guides that are easy to use!
SustainLane has a great study on US city "greenness" at http://www.sustainlane.com/cityindex/citypage/ranking/
