"Unexpected Green" Contest: Sponsored by Earth

by Sean Fisher, Cincinnati, Ohio on 04.26.06
Take Action (events)

IpanemaFabricTurquoise.jpgIf you are a faithful TreeHugger reader, you probably know that our contests are a great way to score free swag from some of the best green retailers on the net. This month, Earth (the shoe company, not the planet) is putting up a $350 gift certificate to the winner of our "Unexpected Green" Contest. Earth manufactures "healthy shoes" made to give you better support and posture through the yoga-inspired "Negative Heel." And, for every pair of shoes you buy and register with them, Earth will donate $1 to EarthShare, non-profit collaboration of environmental and conservation groups. So please check out www.earth.us and show some love to our contest sponsors.

Hmm, I guess you can only be an environmentalist if you wear standard width shoes. How disapointing.

Come now, Lizzy. The wide-width page seems only to be down at the moment -- perhaps a polite email to the company to let them know would be more in order than a snooty post here. You can also check this link (http://www.earth.us/faq.asp#9) to read what they have to say about their several wide-width styles for women.

If it's narrow you're looking for, it would also help them to know that there's a demand for differently-widthed shoes. I'm sure they'd love to know, and would be more than happy to supply every-sized TreeHuggers with earth-friendly footwear. Let's stop beating up on these great, eco-conscious companies for not being absolutely perfect.

Good for downhill only. For uphill grade, switch to regular.

I love Earth shoes, they account for 5 of the 7 pairs of shoes I wear; but $1.00 for each pair registered? I'd be okay with that if the shoes didn't cost about $100 each pair on average. Even 10% would be $10.00. I guess every bit counts, but come on.

I guess you could say I'm cynical about shoes. My whole life I've had super wide duck feet and have had nothing but problems from shoe manafacturers. I know that emails may convince the company to produce wide and narrow shoes, but not the extra wide that I need, and certainly not in a style which is actually attractive. I am currently stuck in one style of leather sandals which are the only ones that want to fit.
