Stop Daylight Savings and End Global Warming

springforward.jpgWe read that the US government is proposing to add a month to Daylight Savings Time next year to "save energy". However, TreeHugger research indicates that eliminating Daylight Savings Time could go a long way to solving the problem of Global Warming. The California Energy Commission says that "Daylight Saving Time "makes" the sun "set" one hour later." TreeHugger Labs ran the numbers and has determined that If DST runs half the year for an hour a day, that is fully 1/48th of our total exposure to the sun that could be eliminated with the cancelling of Daylight Saving Time, almost 2% of solar heat gain annually. That's huge! So why is the Government extending DST? We can only think that the powerful solar energy and photovoltaics lobby is having its way. Why else? So TreeHugger says Take Back the Night and Fight DST. The last thing we need right now is an extra hour of sunlight.

I was about to point out how stupid this was but I remembered what day it is.

Solar energy lobby getting its way is a joke but energy is a consideration when talking about day light saving. The basic logic is there is more natural light when we do work so we don't turn on lamps. It's true too. Day Light Saving was started in part to save on candles. It does save energy.

I feel really silly in that I read, reread, read backwards, and still did not understand...Though to give me some credit, I am reading this somewhat late and did not look at the posting date. Grrr

I would have gotten the joke quicker had I not been so tired from losing an hour sleep thanks to daylight savings time. By the way, it may save energy but it cause more road accidents.
