Instant Survey: Life In The Blogosphere

TreeHugger is thrilled to be in the running for a Webby Award - and we know that we owe most of this success to our enthusiastic readers and tipsters. We're also proud to be part of a growing cadre of green and progressively-minded bloggers. Of course, eco-blogging isn't the only way to go - with so many interesting and unexpected web logs to visit, one can get lost in the blogosphere for hours. We're curious about you folks:

This blog thing confuses me.
I certainly wouldn´t call TH a blog because it has an organisational aspect. I´d call it a webzine.
A blog on the other hand needs a more personal dimension. I´m of course no media buff but that´s what I think. Ayone agree?
Of course I do :) I have a blog on my site @ http://victoria-e.com/
I also keep a more personal blog @ www.livejournal.com/users/victoriablue
I know just what you are saying Sverrir & I partly agree with you. TH is more of a webzine in the aspect of what it offers, but some of the entries do have more of a personal tint.
Still, with so many different people posting entries, along with the type of ads and helpful surveys & shopping guides; it is more of a webzine in that aspect.
To learn more about what blogs are ("blog", from weblog), a good start is the wikipedia article about them.
Sverrir, TreeHugger definitely is a blog. What defines a blog is more the format than the content, and though most blogs are personal, many of them are also group efforts.
A blog basically is a publishing tool: It's usually reverse chronological order, easy and fast to publish and entries are usually shorter than magazine or newspaper articles. That's about it.
Grist.org is more a magazine than a blog (though they also have a blog at gristmill.grist.org), and WorldChanging is another group blog similar to TreeHugger, though they tend to be updated less often and have longer articles.
Hope that helped clarify things a bit.
In addition to what I said above, I'd say that since a "blog" is more a description of format than content, it is possible to have magazine-type content published on a blog.
In fact, you could publish a book - and it has been done - on a blog. Chapter by chapter..
It's a very flexible tool, but what makes it most powerful is that it's a conversation with the readers. It's not a one-way broadcast.

Have a GREAT day!
I'm happy to have joined the eco-blogosphere! My nascent blog is www.organiclifeblog.com. I will also be blogging at www.eatlocalchallenge.com during May to celebrate and encourage people to eat only food grown within 100 miles of where they live. Join us!

Blogging?? bah....humbug "Oh hi, here are my thoughts on this", "hey guess what, I took my dog for a walk!!!", "I really liked the sandwich I had today!!!!!" Soooooooo much dull dull content out there - why do people bother??! It's like listening to someone else's conversation on a cellphone. My life isn't interesting enough to justify a diary, so why would I write about it on the internet??!
I don't see Treehugger as a blog either - it is far too interesting and relevant for that!
no
I have a life... ;)
