Get Ready for Summer with a Grass Chair

The ultimate grow-your-own—the grass armchair. Here is the answer to those tricky design problems—where to put the garden chairs, what kind to buy, will they get rusty, be comfortable, be green, look good….The grass armchair is available from Purves & Purves, a furniture design shop. It’s a flatpack, do it yourself kit, consisting of a 14 piece corrugated cardboard frame and a package of grass seeds. It starts to grow after just 10 days. First decide on the best location for it—at the back of the garden so you can enjoy it in peace, or at the front so that you can watch it grow. But it can’t be moved so be serious about this. After you assemble the cardboard frame, you fill it with 240 litres of soil ( supply your own), sprinkle the grass seeds over it, and water it daily. Watch it grow. And enjoy. ::Purves and Purves

this is a cool idea! it makes sitting on the front lawn a neat thing to do! i hope that big box stores like home depo and zehrs and so on pick up on this, (at least the designers for those home decor shows.)
Does the cardboard eventually biodegrade?
who have thought we'd ever have to mow the chairs.
how cool is this???
I like it! It also seems a little creepy though, as if the ground is rising up and swallowing things. Chairs first, who knows what next?? haha
How the heck are you going to mow that thing?!?
i wonder if things like that really low growing flat chamomile and other softish ground covers could be used, they never need to be mowed like grass does and won't go to seed, i love the idea, i bet i could make one from my own left over cardboard boxes fromw hen i moved, some of those boxes are to worn out to hold stuff anymore but if i double up the cardboard bet it is strong enough to make a chair
good idea. clover would probably suit perfectly.

what's to stop ants from making a home out of your beautiful lawn chair and in turn your pants when you sit in it?
Great idea, but what happens to the cardboard after a few years?
Laying down into the grass in the middle of summer is an orgasmic experience, I guess sitting in this chair in the middle of a warm and sunny afternoon would probably be as enjoyable..

Since the cardboard is buried, it will probably hold up together a lot longer than if it was left to biodegrade on the surface, getting hit by the elements.
Doesn't seem to have good back support. I would prefer a laid back Lawn Chair myself.
Certainly lots of novel garden sculpting potential with this.
i imagine teh cardboard will biodegrade but the chair will stay in pretty good shape, especialy if the soil has a high amount of clay
as a kid i made a number of sculpture like things in the garden out of teh soil which had a lot of clay in it and they lasted until we moved away from the house, big castles and things and grass grew all over them they where really cool, so a chair like this could last for many years
more growing and grass furniture here.

just a momentary glitch, back online now ;)

I just thought you guys might like to know, they're using these chairs in the UK's Big Brother, unfortunatly their website doesn't have any pictures of the two chairs as of yet.
They're always very fashionable and quite stylish, so I wouldn't be supprised if demand for these goes up some time very soon.

This is too funny!
is there any place in the US to get this.
Chia Chair
I'm sure you could make your own for much cheaper. It might take alittle time figuring everything out but wouldn't it be cute to have a few chairs and maybe even a coffee table? And as for ground cover I saw a program about diffrent grasses that actually need to be walked on inorder to survive. So the constant sitting on them wouldn't hurt the grass. I'm sure a good nursey would know.
Im doing about Grass Chairs for my project, and i was wondering how many you sell per year??
i dont think that this is acutally that good, what is the point in having a grass chair when you can just sit on the grass in your garden, it is just a waste of money !!!
@anonymous above. I'd say if you had difficulty getting down on the ground this or similar would be perfect. I myself have a bad back a lot of the time, but a simple chair doesn't have the same feel to it as the ground. I think it's a great idea :)
