David Gilmour's New Album is Climate Neutral
by Collin Dunn, Corvallis, OR, USA on 04.12.06

Former Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour has returned from the dark side of the moon to release a climate-neutral album. On An Island was released last month to critical acclaim, and the carbon emissions that resulted from production of the album has been neutralized through an arrangement with The CarbonNeutral Company, who plant trees to absorb excess carbon dioxide floating about in the atmosphere. The album is the first such effort from Columbia Records, but not a first for Gilmour; he has a section of his website, appropriately titled "The Important Stuff," which features his environmental interests. Among the selections are High Tide: News from a Warming World, a book by Mark Lynas; a quick feature on George Monbiot, a journalist, author, academic, and environmental and political activist in the United Kingdom who writes a weekly column for The Guardian newspaper and was presented a United Nations Global 500 Award for outstanding environmental achievement by Nelson Mandela; and Baked Alaska, Drowned Out, and McLibel, a trio of films by Spanner Films about environmental activism. We're glad to see that David is not comfortably numb when it comes to environmental issues. ::David Gilmour via ::Paste Magazine and tipster Lascelles.

How excellent! Gilmour has been a campion of the environment since way before it was cool. Not only is his lastest disc rock-tacular, but it's also carbon neutral! There's no excuse not to get this CD now.
David Gilmour is the man.Not only is he one of the greatest, most creative guitarists,singer-song writer, and music producers in the world, he uses his influence and brains to make this a better planet.
