Bamboo Computer Mouse

From Japan comes this optical bamboo mouse. It's made with polished strips of bamboo. Bamboo is a readily renewable resource, and it's one of the hardest woods in existence. The Evergreen company makes the mouse, along with a matching keyboard. The mouse goes for 3,980 Yen ($34), and they keyboard is available for 7,980 Yen ($68) from Donya. See also this previous post, where we wrote about another bamboo keyboard.

A bit expensive, but most certainly because of low volume production. I bet the bamboo could be dyed/painted and made to look like any other computer mouse.

You said previously: "One of the major benefits touted by vendors is how hard and tough it is. It’s Not." (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2005/09/bamboo_flooring.php) And suddenly now it is "one of the hardest woods in existence" again? Well, which is it?

There's something to be said for using what you have too, instead of tossing one more mouse into a landfill to buy a new bamboo one. But I will certainly think of this when the mouse I have kicks the bucket.

I applaud the idea, but unless you're living in Japan, it would be absurd to buy this mouse thinking it was at all related to sustainable living. I'm sure the mouse just has a thin veneer of bamboo covering the plastic-laden interior. Now tell me all parts are made of PLA cornstarch plastic, and it's made somewhere here in the States, and i'll be interested once my existing mouse quits working. That aside, I think the mouse looks great.

Personally, I prefer the natural version of bamboo-round, natural finish, user friendly, and very organic. Pressed, processed, glued, and glorified bamboo plywood is just another perversion of industrial mass production. Bamboo is a natural- I prefer it that way.
