Pacific Green — Palmwood Furniture

According to Pacific Green their use of old palm tree is a form of ‘timber substitution'. The raw material for their furniture, such as the bed shown here, are derived from coconut palms that are no longer productive. Apparently these trees were planted, about 100 years ago, for commercial cropping of coconut product like oil and cosmetics, and now the trees are past their prime. Using such timber reduces the demand for tropical rainforest timbers, the company suggests. It seems that any by-product from the cutting and drying of palmwood is used by local communities for heating, cooking and agriculture, ensuring a minimal waste operation.
