Making it Easy to Ride a Bike
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 03.18.06

Those of us who try to bike in the city often find that even the dedicated bike lanes are less than optimal. The BBC asked readers to submit pictures of strange bike lanes and got some surprising ones, including this phone booth installed smack in the middle of of a bike lane. ::BBC via ::Spacing Wire
We are so shameless and this is such a good idea that we set up a Flickr set at treehuggerbikelane. Submit your picture (or just email it to lloyd (at) treehugger (dot) com and maybe we will turn it into a contest!
UPDATE: Peter Owens of the Warrington Cycle Campaign supplied this picture to the BBC and dozens more like it.

This is soooo true all over Britain. Such good intentions abound all over the country but the majority of their plans are ruined by Blairite dunder-heads who just don't have a clue.
Brilliant idea! I also suggest emailing your local bike advocacy groups about this. It could be a load of fun!
Oh man, I was doing this years ago. Glasgow had the worst bike lanes ever. The council almost sued me for putting up a website about them
How much road tax do cyclists pay?
Joking, some of those pics were just silly. I hate seeing people parked on cycle lanes.
Just a little point. The phone booth was there first and the cycle lane came after. Otherwise it's a good article
Great idea on the flickr tag. Man, the bike lanes in New York City are a joke. And I don't know about other places, but here everyone pays for the roads (not to mention the oil wars) whether you drive or not.
