LoveCraft BioFuels: Hollywood's Biodiesel Engine Maker
by Erin Courtenay - Madison, WI on 03.29.06

By now TreeHuggers are familiar with the endearing love of biofuel touted by Daryl Hannah and Willie Nelson. But there's a new veggie-fuel fan in tinsel-town, Ms. Mandy Moore. According to Bloomberg news Ms. Moore "had her car adapted to run on pure vegetable oil or the filtered leftovers from restaurant deep fryers." She is one of the growing number of clients bringing their diesel engines to LoveCraft BioFuels for some veggie-fication. It is a growing biz getting' sweeter by the minute according to owner Brian Friedman "It's crazy right now… I can't take half the business that comes in. Every month, business at least doubles, sometimes even quadruples." Thank you from our fantabulous tipster! Via: The Business Journal

Okay... is it wrong that when I read this post, I kept thinking of H.P. Lovecraft?
"Put a Shoggoth in your tank!"
I thought of H.P. Lovecraft too.
"Our biodiesel is made with mythic monster biomass!"
this street corner is actually in silverlake. i live two blocks from here and, as of now, there is NO biodiesel station and no lovecraft signage (which is obviously photoshopped in).
kvo, i live there as well and i've noticed lovecraft biofuels sitting there in its odd green building for the last month or two. go to the giant robot and look to the south-west.
now can somone tell me once and for all if a biofuel car is in fact better for the environment than, say, a hybrid car?
i have tried to talk to lovecraft staff several times, yet no one has demonstrated a solid understanding of emissions of WVO/SVO vs. biodiesel vs. petro diesel. one mechanic read me something from an article, but wasn't sure of the author or the specifics of WVO emissions.
i live right behind lovecraft and i can contest that they are up and running and crazy busy!
This is such a great idea. When I put a deposit down on a car a year ago, I was so excited to get my new Mercedes and alter the carbon footprint that I make on this planet. Unfortunately and unknowingly, I joined a club I am not so thrilled to be a member of. The owner, Brian Friedman has literally taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from people like me with no intention of getting them a car or refunding their money. I know this because it's now been a year. The only thing I have from LOVECRAFT is a bounced refund check and a lot of excuses. I understand that there are over a 1,000 other people in the same boat. I think we should start a class action law suit. Anyone interested should contact me. Oh, and in case Brian might be reading this....I have turned your bounced check over to the District Attorney....he were quite interested in what I had to say.
Dear Mr Anderson and Others,
I am the new owner of Lovecraft. Not only have we worked hard to give everyone great service since becoming involved, we have also hired experts at The National Lab in Oak Ridge, TN to test 10 different Lovecrafted cars using different veg. and plant based fuels. This will provide important emissions information for the entire industry, which is the key to getting the laws changed. It is a GREAT IDEA! Many people LOOOVE Lovecraft. The business just needed a LOT of work which our entire team is now doing. We had to restructure and rebuild the company from the ground up. You will immediately see a big difference.
We no longer sell cars and are deeply regretful for those who have had a bad experience with deposits.
When we are ready to sell cars again they will be premium used and new vehicles to highlight how well our system works. We have over 1400 Cars running on SVO/WVO in LA and now Portland.
Our one tank system is important for the good it can do for the world and we are excited to train Red Cross and other global aid and relief organizations to install the "kit" as to teach people to be sustainable by using fuels grown locally to them.
We have a gentleman in Fiji that runs on Coconut Oil and a farmer in Honduras that is using Palm Oil.
Of course, many countries where our kit is needed most have zero emissions standards and 70-100% diesel vehicles.
This entire process on the business/financial end has not been an easy transition for us either, as you might imagine.
We are looking forward to building a great company. We are looking forward to making the "good idea" into something important on many different levels---for hip kids in Silverlake and for hip villagers in Guatemala, too.
We have satisfied and remedied many customers that had come to Lovecraft looong before it was under new ownership. We are happy to speak with you if there is anyway we can help in your situation, especially as we really do not want people to have a bad impression of the movement in general. You were not wrong in making the decision for the planet!
Please contact me us your earliest convenience. (I DO know your name from the data base but seems to be wrong phone number?)
We are sorry for the grief this has caused and are anxious to talk to you.

Tacee Webb (of deceit)
I 'd like to set the record straight on the new "owner" of Lovecraft
Biofuels, Tacee Webb.
We are currently in a lawsuit due to breach of contract, and the
ownership of Lovecraft is now in dispute. Tacee has decided to begin a
campaign of disinformation against what actually transpired. Here, in
a nutshell, is what happened;
Tacee agreed to purchase the company and pay royalties on the patents.
She also agreed to assume all liabilities. Upon taking possession of
the company, she liquidated over $250,000 worth of vehicles for
pennies on the dollar, stiffed many many people that had put deposits
down on these cars, blaming the previous owners. Existing customers
had their warranties revoked, and were coorced into signing statments
against the previous owners. All contracts were breached, and all
payments stopped. Work in progress was stopped, customers vehicles
were lost, and abandoned. This resulted in a flurry of lawsuits, and
complaints, that were of course directed toward "previous owners"
To resolve this attrocity, I have spent the past 9 months attempting
to talk, negotiate, mediate, you name it, all attempts rejected.
What was once a great company, with incredible potential, is now a
sad shadow of what it once was, and could have been. I am still trying
to work out this mess with Tacee, but don't expect any cooperation.
The only thing I can do at this point, is get the truth out. I am
welcoming Tacees response here, on a forum where she can't delete my
posts.
A letter to Tacee Webb, deleted from the Lovecraft forum;
My husband and I have been loyal customers of LoveCraft since 2005.
We own 3 Mercedes which were converted by Brian Friedman and we have
nothing but good things to say about Brian and the original staff of
LoveCraft. We are very enthusiastic about the vegetable movement and
have hopes that it will blossom and help change the way people think
about transportation. Having said that, we are very concerned by your
behavior on the LoveCraft site. Trashing the inventor and visionary
of the system which you now sell seems extremely unprofessional if
not downright stupid. I noticed that after you trashed Brian and
forced him to respond to your blog, you pulled his letter off?!!!
What is this, Nazi Germany? Not only that, when I posted my OPINION
(We all have those, remember? And they're not always what we want to
hear) you take that off also and ban me from posting again. Is this
the way to run a business, Tacee? Is this the way to keep your loyal
customer base? Do you really think I'm going to send my friends (who
happen to be very interested in this technology) to LoveCraft now? Do
you think my family is going to do anymore interviews and films
promoting your company (we've been interviewed by The Sundance
Channel, The History Channel, French, Italian, Swiss, Belgian and
Irish TV and more)? I'm going to remove the vegetable oil stickers
advertising what was once a wonderful company from all 3 cars and I'm
not going to put them back on until you are out of business and the
rightful owner (and the energy and brains behind the movement) is
back in business.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
More posts deleted from Lovecraft forum:
My family has 3 veggie cars lovingly converted and cared for by Brian. We bought our first veggie oil car in 2005 and are proud to be in the original Lovecraft group of owners. We have only the utmost respect for Brian, his vision and his integrity. He has always been there for us for any problem we have encountered and he still is. All this mudslinging by the current owners is unprofessional and only hurts them. I feel the current owners (who are involved in the American Apparel swamp pit) only bought the company because they saw a chance to get on the biofuels gravy train. Ka-Ching! They know nothing about cars, don't have the vision or soul for the movement and are running the whole thing into the ground. I suggest that when they get through destroying Lovecraft, that everyone on this forum go see Brian at True Biofuels for the real deal. There is new technology coming out that's even more incredible and exciting.
Yet, another post deleted by Tacee Webb:
Sadly, Tacee Webb is conducting a campaign of disinformation.
I have not been responding on this forum for 2 reasons;
1: Tacee Webb and I are in a lawsuit due to breach of contract, and the ownership of Lovecraft is in dispute.
2: despite Tacees claims of "open forum" my access was blocked...this is a new account that I'm sure will be blocked.
As far as other Lovecraft issues go...Look at the reputation, testimonials, media, business volume that Lovecraft had under my management...and look at the sad state of business, reputation, lawsuits, etc under Tacee's management...the truth is obvious to anyone that cares to look.
Tacee says "Brian is not the founder of Lovecraft Biofuels LLC" another Tacee spin...Yes, I founded Lovecraft 6 years ago, Lovecraft Biofuels. Lovecraft Biofuels LLc and Lovecraft Biofuels inc are just Corporate names that ran the business.
Don't believe the hype! I'll publicly post the whole story once the lawsuit is resolved.
Brian Lovecraft (Friedman) Founder, inventor and patent holder of Lovecraft Biofuels
Another Lovecraft forum post that had been placed out of context;
You do have to admit that Brian was the brains behind LoveCraft and without him and his push, we probably would have never heard of LoveCraft. I don't know anybody at Lovecraft (only met Brian once) but it seems Brian's talent was as a spokesperson as well as his thinking outside the box to make an easily usable one-tank system that could work for almost any type of person. It seems the only people to drive two-tanks are mechanics and hard-core do it yourselfers.
Almost everybody in the WVO world is against this guy and I've never found any concrete reasons why. I've found many forums bashing Lovecraft's system and have been yelled at in person by a competitor telling me, "Your car is gonna die in a year!" Here I am over 32,000 miles and running like a champ on Brian's ingenuity.
While researching wvo 2 years ago, I kept coming across these meat head veggers on other forums and talking in person, but when I was eating some breakfast one morning I saw Brian on some morning news channel pouring in a cubie of soybean oil into a Benz, with his calm yet passionate message, I knew this was the right place to look at the conversion.
While I don't know what happened since Brian has left LoveCraft, the new owner should at least pay some respect to a guy who built this thing from front yard conversions.
Over 32,000 miles on my LoveCraft conversion since June '06
A response from Tacee to Gail,
One day you will know that every thing Brian has told you is not true.
We are not even in a "lawsuit" though we will likely go to arbitration and a independant third
party will decide what is fair.
All the prior owners, who have been stuck with all debts, taxes etc, and staff were there and witnessed what has transpired.
I have always tried to do right by Brian despite what he says. I am sorry you only have one side of the story. I try to find the good in others and have seen good in him. I have asked all parties to hold their tongues as they are very very angry with him. They have not posted on blogs negatives on Brian as I have asked them NOT to. Brian has taken this to this level. Not me.
I certainly would not post mean things about you or anyone else when I did not have all the facts. I know you are only trying to help him but you really do not see the real story.
I am doing my best to run Lovecraft smoothly and it is going very well despite what Brian says.
Tacee Webb
My response to Tacee;
Gail and I both read what you said about me on the Lovecraft (and other)
forums, and witnessed you deleting my responses, and hers...that contradicts your
email , where you says you aren't talking badly about me.
In the purchase of Lovecraft, you agreed to accept all liabilities ( I have emails from you, and documents to back this up, that I'll gladly post) so, how could
previous owners be stuck with debts, unless shes not paying Lovecraft
bills?
If you're only hearing one side of the story, what is the other side?
I've spent almost a year trying to talk, meet, mediate, etc, all
attempts rejected.
Most of her "staff" that were aware of the inner workings of
Lovecraft left, after witnessing Tacees antics.
I'd love to hear her response.
-Brian
Just ask why his name magically changed from "Brian Friedman" to "Brian Lovecraft" after he sold Lovecraft. That pretty much says it all about this disgusting and shameless CON MAN.
Take this to private email, guys.
