Can those that have voted yes (any rate) share with us what organizations they are helping? I'm curious.

I put "not at all" - I don't physically go somewhere to volunteer. But I do sign a heck of a lot of petitions, and I send money to several activist and conservancy groups annually.

I volunteer as an organizer and planner for the Foresight Design Initiative (the Chicago chapter of o2) www.foresightdesign.org. They also run Chicago Green Drinks and Smart Business Hour.

I volunteer as a host for 1-3 events per month, and attend planning meetings, and help organize events on an ongoing basis (I spent an hour today trying to line up a speaker for an upcoming event).

I volunteer at my local animal shelter 1 time a week. is that considered enviormental help?

"is that considered enviormental help?"

I don't know, but it's certainly an admirable thing. Thank you for doing that!

here in Madison our animal shelter/humane society are very active in local conservation. they see the connection btw. healthy animals and a healthy environment as being really important.

I volunteer for the local "Friends" groups of which there are many, e.g. Friends of Cassiobury Park, Friends of Croxley Common Moor etc. I've done everything from clearing overgrown gravel-bed streams, nestbox building and invasive plant clearance. You get to meet lots of like-minded people and learn about new places to go and visit.

Many years ago I even spent a week on an RSPB reserve, looking after their hides, talking to visitors, planting trees and guarding Avocet nests overnight. That was a very rewarding experience.

I participate in at least one Operation Beach Sweep Annually, and two cleanup operations for the New River Foundation. The latter is really rewarding, because I grew up on the New River and played often near the Wilson Bay. The New River of my youth was a festering swamp filled with trash, human effluent, and the occasional hog-waste spill. Thanks to more than a decade of their stewardship and public education, the New River is clean and beautiful, and among the top rivers in the State of North Carolina.

Gotta pimp their website:

Have taken an WWII air sea rescue boat and are turning it into a sustainable community project in the Gowanus Canal: art, education and environment. Boats!
